The Shining Hour

a bit about us...

We are Paul Henderson (seated), Nadia Sunde and Marcus Church. Three musicians, songwriters and friends, passionate about modern folk and bluegrass, good coffee, homecooking, laughter and the Punch Brothers. 

We got together in late 2022 with a bunch of song ideas from Nadia and a steely determination to craft them into something that would move people - in their hearts, thoughts and bodies.

Those song ideas have morphed into the makings of a full length album with plans to record later this year. For now, check out a couple of songs (just below!) from a two day recording session with Peter Walters in December 2022. Songs fresh out of the oven...still hot and burning our fingers. 

 

Nadia Sunde

vocalist, lyricist, songwriter

An acclaimed singer, songwriter and theatre artist, Nadia is the recipient of several Queensland Music Awards, International Songwriting Competition Awards and an APRA Art Music Award for a collaborative project with Linsey Pollak (OAM). Nadia is also a successful published children's author, early childhood music and story play educator and consultant. She doesn't trust anyone that doesn't like dogs or Dolly Parton.

Paul Henderson

Banjo, band barista, songwriter

A jazz trained professional guitarist with over 25 years experience, Paul has spent the last few years dedicated to his mastery of the banjo, continuing his study online with world renowned banjo player, Noam Pikelny and in masterclass with Bela Fleck. He is active in both the jazz and bluegrass communities in Brisbane, Australia and also enjoys playing world, folk, and classical music. He performs regularly with Estampa, Kelsey Giarola, Brisbane Jazz Orchestra, and The Shining Hour.

Marcus Church

Guitar, vocals, songwriter

A graduate from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Marcus Church is an outstanding acoustic guitarist quickly making a name for himself in the Australian bluegrass scene. Marcus regularly performs in the Haystack Mountain Hermits, the Shining Hour, and the Inadequates. Each of these groups has allowed him to showcase his unique sound, skill and passion for bluegrass, earning him a dedicated following of fans and admirers.
